The fate of a law that would likely ban social media platform TikTok in the United States goes before the Supreme Court as the justices consider whether to block it.

Facing a looming ban in the United States, TikTok's fate will be in the hands of the Supreme Court in a case being argued on Friday that pits free speech rights against national security concerns over the widely used short-video app owned by Chinese company ByteDance.

In response to concerns that China can use the platform to spy on Americans and spread propaganda, Congress last year passed a law requiring TikTok’s parent company to sell it to a non-Chinese owner. TikTok and the parent company, ByteDance, then sued to block the law. This morning, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in the case.
