A sequel series to "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" with Sarah Michelle Gellar returning appears to be nearing a pilot order at Hulu.

The 47-year-old would again play the Buffy Summers character she brought to life from 1997 to 2003 in her WB, then UPN series.

Hulu is developing a sequel to "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" with Sarah Michelle Gellar reprising her role as Buffy Summers.

Gellar, who appears in Paramount+ with Showtime’s “Dexter” revival prequel “ Dexter: Original Sin ,” had until recently been closed to the idea of a “Buffy” return.

Such a thing may be possible once again, as multiple outlets are reporting that Hulu has a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot in the works. And Gellar is reportedly attached to recur on the new show, which would reportedly focus on a new, younger slayer, with Gellar in more of a supporting role.

Nora and Lilla Zuckerman will executive produce the Buffy reboot with Zhao, Gellar, and the original show’s EPs Gail Berman, Fran and Kaz Kuzui of Suite B, and Dolly Parton via Sandollar. Parton wasn’t a credited executive producer on the original show, which ran from 1997-2003, but her Sandollar Television was one of its producers.
