Israeli military revealed one of its airstrikes outside Beirut earlier this month killed Hashem Safieddine, a powerful cleric within the party ranks, who was expected to succeed Hassan Nasrallah

Hezbollah said it had fired rockets at two bases near the Israeli city of Tel Aviv and a naval base west of Haifa.

Israel confirmed that it killed Hashem Safieddine, the presumed heir apparent of Hezbollah, in an airstrike on Beirut. Safieddine is a cousin of former Hezbollah General Secretary Hassan Nasrallah, who was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike late last month.

Hashem Safieddine, whose death in an Israeli strike was announced Tuesday, was widely considered the potential successor to the group's assassinated leader Hassan Nasrallah.

The Israeli military confirmed Tuesday that Hashem Safieddine, who was believed to be Hezbollah’s next top official, was killed in an Israeli attack. He was found to have been killed in an Oct. 4 airstrike that targeted Hezbllah’s intelligence division hiding in Beirut.

Hashem Safieddine died in early October in a strike that also killed 25 other Hezbollah leaders, according to Israel Israel's army said it had killed the cleric tipped to succeed slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an air strike on Beirut three weeks ago that targeted commanders of the Iran-backed militant group.
