Netflix is distancing itself from "Emilia Pérez" star Karla Sofía Gascón in an effort to salvage the film's Oscar prospects.

Actress did an hourlong interview with CNN En Español without consulting the streaming service over the weekend

Netflix is scrambling to contain the fallout from Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofía Gascón’s resurfaced racist tweets according to several reports, which say the streamer has all but disinvited the actress from the rest of the award season’s festivities.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the film's embattled best actress Oscar nominee Karla Sofía Gascón will no longer be coming to the U.S. for any of this week's many awards activities.

"Emilia Pérez" has faced controversy and criticism for various reasons. Among the most prominent is its portrayal of Mexico. The movie’s director, Jacques Audiard, is French, and none of its three lead cast members are of Mexican descent. Only one member of the core cast, Adriana Paz, is from Mexico.

By Jan. 31, during a Q&A in London, Emilia Pérez co-star and Best Supporting Actress frontrunner Zoe Saldaña said, “I’m still processing everything that has transpired in the last couple of days, and I’m sad. … It makes me really sad because I don’t support [it], and I don’t have any tolerance for any negative rhetoric towards people of any group.”

The Hollywood Reporter' and 'Variety' reported streaming giant Netflix, which has invested heavily in hopes that 'Emilia Perez' will provide its first ever best picture Oscar win, has now dropped Gascon from all campaign efforts.

Karla Sofía Gascón has said she will not withdraw from the Oscars race for best actress, despite controversy over past social media posts which showed her criticising Islam. Gascón made history last month as the first transgender person to be nominated in an Oscars acting category,
