Emergency managers in Los Angeles apologized Friday after false evacuation alerts sparked panic in a city on edge over an unprecedented wildfire disaster.

Beverley Hills residents received “another evacuation alert from the LA County Fire Department” but officials “confirmed this was another error."

While the message was intended for residents of Woodland Hills, officials say the registration location of the phones might have caused a wider distribution.

More than 100,000 people were told to leave their homes as wildfires burn uncontained in the greater Los Angeles area.
