ARLINGTON, Texas — Mike McCarthy says he “absolutely” wants to return as the coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones has dropped multiple hints that McCarthy would be back, but the team owner was far from definitive about McCarthy's future after a 23-19 loss to Washington on Sunday closed out a 7-10 season.

Jones went on to say how impressed he’s been that the players have stood behind McCarthy during this difficult season and that he still has their ear and support. When asked where McCarthy ranks among the coaches he’s hired since purchasing the franchise, Jones referred to the NFL’s all-time list.

The Dallas Cowboys' (7-9) 2024 season finale on Sunday afternoon against the Washington Commanders will not alter team owner and general manager Jerry Jones' evaluation of head coach Mike McCarthy and his coaching staff.
