BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — A judge Monday ordered the acquittal of a former Georgia prosecutor on one of the two misconduct charges against her, ruling that prosecutors at her trial failed to present any evidence the she obstructed police investigating the 2020 killing of Ahmaud Arbery.

Senior Judge John R. Turner planned to seat a jury Tuesday morning at the Glynn County courthouse in the port city of Brunswick. Jury selection began a week ago but was delayed by a rare winter storm that left the coastal community coated in snow and ice.

At the time Ahmaud Arbery was killed, Jackie Johnson had served for a decade as district attorney for the Brunswick Judicial Circuit. Greg McMichael worked in her office as an investigator before retiring in 2019.

Officials have summoned more than 200 potential jurors to a Georgia courthouse where a former prosecutor will stand trial on charges she meddled with police investigating the 2020 killing of Ahmaud Arbery.

Judge ruled to dismiss one criminal count against Jackie Johnson, the former Brunswick-circuit district attorney accused of improperly influencing the investigation into Ahmaud Arbery's death. The judge said prosecutors failed to present evidence Johnson obstructed Glynn County Police officers.
